Woman pushed on the subway tracks: the Stib employee who filmed the attempted murder in Rogier was sanctioned, not fired

The Stib employee who filmed the scene of the attempted murder in the Rogier metro station on January 14 inside the dispatching center “was sanctioned in proportion to the seriousness of the fault”, said declared Friday Françoise Ledune, spokesperson for the STIB, confirming information from Sudinfo. The Stib employee who filmed the footage, which was then leaked to the press, was not fired but was sanctioned by his employer. According to Sudinfo, he was demoted in his functions and should be transferred within the Cleanliness cell of the Stib.

The public transport company did not wish to provide further explanations for its decision, recalling that no company comments on the disciplinary sanctions.

On January 14, around 7:45 p.m., a young man deliberately pushed a woman onto the metro tracks at Rogier station in Brussels. The latter ended up on the tracks but was able to be brought up to the platform quickly. In addition, the driver of the metro train arriving had the reflex to engage the emergency stop button. The suspect was arrested and placed under an arrest warrant.

A petition asking the Stib to show leniency towards its employee had collected more than 1,600 signatures within the company.
