A 54-year-old woman fled from Bavaria to Vorarlberg on Friday followingnoon in a misappropriated car. During her escape of more than 35 kilometers she was constantly pursued by the police, first by the German, then also by the Austrian. They managed to stop them shortly following Alberschwende (Bregenzerwald). The police had shot in the air and at the getaway vehicle several times in both countries, but the 54-year-old was not hit.

As the police in Vorarlberg announced early Friday evening, the Bavarian police wanted to stop the woman around 1.30 p.m. in Obermaiselstein near Oberstdorf because her car had been reported as embezzled. However, the woman resisted being stopped and fled over the Riedberg Pass to Vorarlberg, where she arrived at around 1:45 p.m. She continued her journey through the Bregenzerwald at far excessive speed, overtook several vehicles at great risk and continued to ignore all attempts to stop. There were several side vehicle collisions.

When the 54-year-old had to stop in Alberschwende due to traffic, a police officer fired several shots at the vehicle, but he was initially unable to stop the woman from fleeing. The 54-year-old drove on, on the outskirts of Alberschwende the German police managed to force her to stop. But the woman wasn’t ready to give up. She drove off once more and rammed several police cars that surrounded her car. A well-aimed shot in the front tire of the getaway car put an end to the escape. Two Austrian and one German police car were damaged.

The woman then locked herself in the car and swallowed pills before the police officers might break a window. She was overpowered with pepper spray. Because it was unclear what kind of medication the 54-year-old had taken, she was immediately taken to the Feldkirch hospital by rescue helicopter to be checked.
