Woman arrested for rioting at McDonald’s

Tianis Sheila Jones is a young pregnant woman facing charges following police said he had a “violent tantrum” at a McDonald’s in Lakeland, Florida. The Polk County Sheriff’s Department said Jones was upset regarding how the restaurant had handled her online order.

The confrontation occurred on May 19 at the McDonald’s located at 2606 US-92 East in Lakeland, Florida. During a press conference broadcast on FacebookPolk County Sheriff Grady Judd explained that Jones ordered his food online and intended to pick it up at the drive-through window.

She had ordered a Happy Meal, a chocolate shake, a Filet-o-Fish sandwich, sweet tea, and a sprite. Judd said McDonald’s had “mixed up some things” with the order and a worker asked Jones to come over to the third window while they sorted it out. However, Jones parked and entered the restaurant.

Judd described Jones as “McMad” for his incorrect food order. He said the workers offered to reimburse Jones for his money, as also heard in the 10-minute 911 call that was released by WFLA-TV en YouTube.

The call lasted approximately 10 minutes. Polk County Sheriff’s Office public approximately 2 minutes of McDonald’s restaurant surveillance footage. The video doesn’t have audio, so it’s unclear what Jones told employees before calling 911.

2. Jones was recorded throwing bottles and glasses on the ground. She repeatedly emphasized to 911 that she hadn’t touched anyone.

the surveillance video shows Jones standing at the counter talking to a McDonald’s worker. About a minute into the video, she starts pushing items off the counter with her left hand. The items included a plastic sign and several bottles, as noted in a sheriff’s department press release.

Jones then walks behind the counter and throws glasses on the floor. Another woman, whom the Sheriff identified as Jones’s sister, approaches and tries to stop Jones. Jones resists her sister’s attempts to convince her to leave.

According to Sheriff Judd, as Jones was throwing things, he hit some of the workers with the items. He said the footage was not included in the 2-minute video the department posted on YouTube.

During the 911 call, Jones is heard exclaiming multiple times, “I didn’t lay hands on anyone!”

3. Jones Called 911 to Report that McDonald’s Was Trying to “Scam” Her Out of Her Money

During the 911 callJones claims that he has been waiting at least 15 minutes for his food order to be fulfilled. She can also be heard saying that the meal was worth around $25.

She is heard telling the dispatcher, “I’m at McDonald’s. I am five months pregnant. These people don’t know how to run a damn McDonald’s. I want my money. They tried to scam me out of my money. I want my money!”.

Judd commented on the episode: “I don’t know what happened to him that night. I don’t know if he was missing two fries for a Happy Meal, or maybe he was missing a Happy Meal altogether, but he created a ‘McMess’ and acted like a ‘McNut.’ But do you know how it ended? In a ‘MccBurglar’”.

4. She exposed her stomach and ‘twerked’ before leaving McDonald’s

The 911 call collected parts of the exchange between Jones, her sister and at least one McDonald’s worker. Jones’s pregnancy is discussed. Someone recommends that he go to the hospital due to the stress of the situation, but it is not clear exactly what Jones said in response because several voices speak to each other.

Before leaving the restaurant, surveillance video shows Jones lifting her shirt to expose her pregnant belly. He then turns his back to the counter and twerks.

The Polk County Sheriff said Jones’s mother was in the parking lot and both Jones’s mother and sister were “mortified” by what had happened.

Judd added: “I want to tell Tianis that when he gets to jail, we don’t have any McDonald’s. That’s how it is. And we’re not going to give you any golden bow. But we’re going to give you a pair of silver handcuffs. And then when she eats, there’s no wonderful chocolate milkshakes, no sweet tea, no sprite.”

5. Jones faces several serious crimes, including theft and misuse of the 911 system

Polk County SheriffTianis Jones has been charged with misdemeanors in the past.

Jones was arrested the next day, according to Polk County inmate records. She spent two days behind bars before being released on Sunday, May 22, on bond.

Jones faces the following charges:

  • Robbery with assault/battery
  • Criminal Mischief ($200 or less)
  • disorderly conduct
  • Misuse of the 911 system

Polk County Public Records they show that Jones has dealt with the police at least twice since he turned 18. He previously faced misdemeanor charges for driving without a valid license and failing to appear in court. The sheriff also made reference to these incidents during the press conference.
