Daegu District Court Chief Judge Cho Jeong-hwan issued an arrest warrant following interrogating the suspect before arresting Lee for regarding an hour from 2:30 pm on the same day.
The court is known to have stated that Lee’s crime was serious and that there was a risk of escape as the reason for his arrest.
Originally, it was expected that Lee’s arrest would be decided later this followingnoon, but it seems that Lee confessed to all the crimes in court and the arrest warrant was issued earlier.
After the screening, Lee left the courtroom and repeatedly said “I’m sorry” to the reporters.
Mr. Lee is accused of opening the emergency exit door of an Asiana flight departing from Jeju Airport that was landing at Daegu Airport on the followingnoon of the 26th at regarding 213m (700 feet) in the air (violation of the Aviation Security Act).
The day before, the police applied for an arrest warrant, judging that “Lee’s crime is serious and there is a risk of escape, so it is necessary to secure a new recruit.”
Lee replied, “I wanted to get down quickly,” to the reporter’s question before attending the warrant review, and when asked if he did not think that opening the door would be dangerous, he replied, “I am so sorry to the children.”
At that time, a team of 65 players, including elementary and middle school students participating in the National Youth Sports Festival held in Ulsan, were also on board.
Among them, a total of nine people, including eight athletes and one coach, complained of nausea, vomiting, and trembling hands and feet and were treated at the hospital.
The police plan to call in the crew and passengers who overpowered Lee at the time of landing for questioning.
