A 38-year-old woman (who has not been named) and her dog were saved following being trapped in Mary Jane Canyon, Utah (United States). Fortunately, the victim used the resources Emergency SOS via satellite and managed to ask for help.
According to Grand County officials, the center received the alert around 7:22 am last Monday. In the call, there were geographic coordinates, but details on the nature of the occurrence were missing.
A search and rescue team then sprang into action and began the ascent through the canyon, while emergency helicopters flew over the area. Fortunately, the woman and dog were found regarding three kilometers from the original coordinate.
Although they were unable to land the helicopter, the crew transmitted the position of where those involved were to the ground team. Around 9:25 pm, rescuers reached the woman, who was unharmed.
Interestingly, eight minutes before her call was received by the switchboard, she received a message that the message failed to be sent. Believing that her request had not been conveyed, she began walking barefoot through the canyon areas.
A member of the search and rescue team even lent the woman his shoes, and together they made it safely back to the trail. Yet another practical example in which technology impacts people’s lives — and animals too! ????
