Burgenland journalist and author Wolfgang Weisgram died unexpectedly on Friday, his daughter Johanna Sebauer announced on his Facebook page on Saturday. The long-time Burgenland journalist and “Standard” sports editor died of a cerebral haemorrhage at the age of 67. In addition to his journalistic work, Weisgram, who lives in Matz (district Mattersburg), has published several books, mostly about football.

The death of Wolfgang Weisgram deeply affected Burgenland’s political representatives. Governor Hans Peter Doskozil wrote: “With the arrival of Wolfgang Weisgram, Burgenland not only loses a passionate journalist and writer who wrote about Burgenland in all its aspects, but also the loss of a remarkable man who brought rich gifts to our homeland with his inspiration and gift of storytelling.

Politicians pay tribute to late Wesgram

ÖVP state party chairman Christian Sagartz described Weisgram as “an objective and courageous figure in journalism”. Green Party leader Anja Haider-Werner highlighted her benevolent and appreciative relationship with the late journalist. “My heart bleeds because he died so early and so many words remained unsaid and unwritten,” Haider-Varner wrote during the broadcast.
