Wölbitsch/Hungerländer ad Wien Energie: ultimate proof of the failure of Vice Mayor Wiederkehr and neos in Vienna

Project neos in Vienna failed – Return should provide office

Vienna (OTS) “If ultimate proof is required that neos have completely thrown their ideals and values overboard in terms of transparency in the town hall coalition, then this was definitely provided in today’s survey,” said club chairman Markus Wölbitsch in view of the questioning of Deputy Mayor City Councilor Christoph Wiederkehr in today’s commission of inquiry into the SPÖ financial scandal.

On July 15, 2022, he did not question the instrument of emergency competence in any way. With regard to the information required from the public in this case, the latter was simply satisfied with the rejection of the SPÖ. These were all decisions made by the mayor, was the succinct reply from the deputy mayor. Neither did Wiederkehr personally speak to the mayor, the city councilor for finance, or those responsible at Wien Energie and the municipal utility company regarding the financial upheavals in this case on that day or during the summer and noted essential questions in direct conversation. Wien Energie’s risky business model was also not critically questioned.

“Instead of now acknowledging or eradicating the mistakes of the past, we continue as before and cover up where possible. This is the complete opposite of transparency, which is a cross-cutting matter and falls under the responsibility of Wiederkehr,” says Caroline Hungerländer, councillor.

The deputy mayor’s long list of sins

The misuse of subsidies in Vienna’s kindergartens uncovered by the City Audit Office at the beginning of this year, the acute shortage of teachers at Vienna’s schools, the failure of the authorities at MA 35, the record deficit at Vienna’s adult education centers and the blatant integration and education deficit speak for themselves, which explains the negative current account of the Education City Council.

And the topic of transparency is obviously confused with invisibility, especially on the part of Wiederkehr. “It is clear that this essential topic was sacrificed at the altar of government participation. The neos project in Vienna, with Return at the top, has therefore failed completely and is practicing the pattern that this investigative commission uncovered in this case. Hear nothing, see nothing and say nothing. It is high time for Wiederkehr to make his office available,” concluded Wölbitsch and Hungerländer.
