Woke culture strikes again and arrives at school. What is causing a nuisance now are the aprons worn by students in class. Instead of the white and pink checked ones for girls and white and blue for boys, the Salice Salentino-Guagnano Comprehensive Institute in Puglia has proposed a light green one for everyone. The decision came after a meeting of the Teachers’ Council with the stated aim of “creating a more equitable and inclusive school environment”. The innovation, which has already made waves online, has been scheduled for next year and was presented to the children’s parents directly by the school principal Michele Serra.

As reported in the Corriere della Sera, the initiative has been adopted by a few other schools in Salento. This is a change that will be introduced gradually. In fact, it will start with new students enrolled in primary schools in the municipalities of Guagnano and Salice Salentino. The plan is then to “uniform the color for all students in subsequent years”. The decision came after, last year, the “problem” of the color of the aprons was raised by the Commission “Equal opportunities, gender policies and civil rights” of the Municipality of Guagnano.

“We all want our children to grow up free from gender stereotypes, developing mutual respect and awareness of diversity. We are convinced that this initiative will help create a more equitable and inclusive school environment, where every child can feel free to express themselves without constraints,” explained Michele Serra. The initiative, however, has not met with the approval of a good portion of public opinion. “Freedom is not making everyone equal,” wrote a user on Facebook. “But what does that mean. What do I want to understand from this initiative for kindergarten children who already wear white aprons?”, commented another.
