Witnesses wanted: Racing cyclist collided with cyclist (37) in Wanghausen

The cyclist who was seriously injured in the accident, a 37-year-old from the Braunau district, was riding his bike on Weilhart State Road 501 in Hochburg over the so-called “Wanghausner Mountain” downhill towards Burghausen at around 11.25 a.m.

In Wanghausen, near the local inn, he wanted to turn left into a street. He slowed down, gave a clear hand signal and, as he pulled into the middle of the road, looked behind him to make sure he could turn.

When he actually turned, a faster racing cyclist suddenly overtook him on the left. The two collided. The cyclist, who wanted to turn, lost control of his bike, hit a concrete garden wall and fell headfirst onto the road. The racing cyclist was able to avoid a fall and rushed to the aid of the fallen 37-year-old together with two cyclists following behind and an uninvolved couple.

After receiving emergency medical treatment, the 37-year-old was taken to Braunau Hospital. The racing cyclist then probably continued on towards the Salzburg area.

Racing cyclist is now wanted

“No data was recorded during the initial treatment, so we are now looking for witnesses to the accident,” the police said in response to a request from the OÖN. The racing cyclist is being sought in particular because he was the main cause of the accident.

Witnesses, first responders and the racing cyclist involved are asked to contact the Hochburg-Ach police station on 059133/4201 100.
