Alex Zanardi still in the hearts of many sports fans: the announcement arrives that puts him back in the spotlight
Italy is a country rich in excellence from a sporting point of view. Culturally and historically, sport has always had a fundamental role, so much so as to welcome and grow numerous talents in every discipline. A clear example are the 40 medals won at the Paris 2024 Olympics, a more than brilliant achievement.
But among the excellences absolute, it is impossible to mention an athlete who has been able to reinvent himself in his life, becoming an example for everyone, an incredible warrior who never gives up. We are obviously talking about Alex Zanardithe former racing driver who for the most absurd and dramatic reasons found himself changing his life and starting over from scratch with courage and virtue.
The athlete from Bologna has a unique story. In 2001, as everyone knows, he suffered a very serious accident at Lausitzringwhile racing in the CART championship. The crash forced doctors to amputate both of Zanardi’s legs, but after the rehabilitation period he recovered, wearing titanium prostheses and subsequently relaunching himself as Paralympic athlete.

Zanardi has therefore reinvented himself, becoming a symbol of rebirth and courage for all of Italian sport. From motors he has moved on to the world of handbikewhere he immediately proved to be a phenomenon: the Bolognese has already brought home 6 Paralympic medals (4 golds and two silvers).

The unfortunate Alex in 2020 suffered a second serious accidentjust as he was training on the road with his handbike, crashing into a truck. The athlete overcame this too, even though he was still struggling with a long and painful rehabilitation away from the limelight.
For this reason Zanardi missed the appointment, also as a symbol, of the Paralympics of Paris 2024, taken a few days ago. The Spanish journalist Virgil Pasotti he dedicated a post to him on X, which will surely move his many fans: “It is impossible to watch the Paralympic Games without remembering the great Alex Zanardi” – complete with an image of the champion in his Italian national team uniform during one of his handbike races.
The hope is that the great and immortal Alex returns as soon as possible, at least to show himself to the general public who would so much like to be able to hug him again.
