Without Messi and Di Maria, Argentina will face the World Cup qualifiers like this

Argentina and Inter Miami captain Leonel Messi will not be present at the FIFA double date on the road to the 2026 World Cup.

The list announced on Monday for Argentina’s matches on September 5 and 10 also does not include Ángel Di María, who with the Copa América title ratified his decision to end his stint with the Albiceleste national team.

The new additions to the team that won the title in the United States are goalkeepers Walter Benítez, from the Dutch PSV, and Juan Musso, from the Italian Atalanta.

The absentees from the last squad, in addition to Messi and Di Maria, are Franco Armani, River Plate’s goalkeeper; Lucas Martinez Quarta, from Italian Fiorentina; Marcos Acuña, from Spanish Sevilla; and Exequiel Palacios, from German Bayern Leverkusen.

On Thursday, September 5, the Albiceleste will host Chile at the Estadio Más Monumental in Buenos Aires.
