To sign objections iFixit yesterday announced its dismantling (teardown) official of 24-inch iMac with the M3 chipwhich only confirms something that we all already suspected: the new all-in-one Apple is as similar on the inside as it is on the outside with its direct predecessor, equipped with the M1 chip.
On the outside, as we already know, the two computers are basically identical. We have the same very thin design as the previous version and an external source that, as well remembered by the presenter of the video published by iFixit, has the advantage of being easily replaceable — in addition to having a very convenient Ethernet port (only in the most expensive models, it’s worth note).
To gain access to the iMac’s components, you still need to detach the desktop display from its chassis, which requires special tools. However, the presenter herself said that, although she does not believe this is the best solution, the stickers used by Apple on the iMac are relatively easy to remove, cut and reinstall if necessary.
As in the case of the model equipped with the M1 chip, the interior of the new 24″ iMac is relatively “empty”, with most of the components being positioned at the bottom of the chassis. The computer’s logic board is very compact and holds both the M3 and memory chips as well as the USB-C/Thunderbolt port modules and the power connector — which has the potential to make repairs simpler.
If you intend to carry out any repairs on the computer’s connectors or use a VESA mount, be aware that you will have to go through a series of screws and adhesives. Although Apple allows you to use the 24″ iMac with a third-party stand, you must disassemble the computer to convert the dock. The USB-C/Thunderbolt port modules, although removable, are also secured with the help of screws, which, in turn, are hidden under stickers.
The most significant change in terms of the design of the new 24″ iMac’s internal components is perhaps the single CMOS battery found on the logic board; Before, there were two. The iFixit presenter even joked in the video that this is, by far, the most repairable battery shipped by Apple with any of its products.
This time, iFixit did not give a repairability rating to the new 24″ iMac with the M3 chip. The model with the M1, however, received a 2/10 rating from the repair firm shortly following being launched in early 2021.
