Without cold progression, work becomes more worthwhile again!

Fritz Pöltl (FCG-ÖAAB): “It was always clear to us that people who deliver their services every day should not experience any disadvantages!”

Vienna (OTS) 7.5 million people will benefit from the abolition of cold progression in Austria following the finance minister presented a relief package on Friday that will be financed with the as yet unspecified third of the expected tax relief. Specifically, there are 1.18 billion euros that will benefit the working population from January 1, 2024. The automated adjustment of the first two thirds will already save taxpayers by EUR 2.47 billion.

FCG claim

“This fully complies with the FCG principle of ‘performance must be worth it’,” says Fritz Pöltl, FCG-ÖAAB parliamentary group leader in the Vienna Chamber of Labor, particularly pleased. For decades he and his group had demanded the abolition of the creeping tax increase, which had given the respective finance minister a hefty bonus every time his salary increased. Most recently it was 3.65 billion euros. Fritz Pöltl: “All parties have just talked regarding it for decades, but no government has carried out its abolition. Chancellor Karl Nehammer has actually achieved this milestone!”

Who benefits?

The tax improvement now benefits the working population. Largely through falling taxes, but also – socially cushioned – through better support for families and children. For example, by increasing the additional child allowance from 550 to 700 euros for families with low incomes. But also by extending the home office tax deduction or expanding tax relief for overtime.

Appreciation

Fritz Pöltl: “The increase in tax exemption limits for overtime and for heavy and dirty work is a strong sign of appreciation for everyone who does a lot. It was always clear to us that people who perform their best every day should not experience any disadvantages!”
