As already known, Ash Ketchum will no longer be the protagonist of the next seasons of the Pokémon anime. But this will not be the only change that the franchise prepares for the new crop of episodes. Even without the charismatic Pikachu known to everyone, another Pikachu will stand out among the main characters —in particular, we will have a Captain Pikachuwith the right to a hat worthy of the Air Force.
As shared by the official Pokémon UK profile, we’ve got a sneak peek at one of the series’ new human characters—Friede, who will act as a guide of sorts for protagonists Liko and Roy—as well as that of their trusty yellow companion. The characters will adventure through the Paldea region, presumably similar to how Brock and Misty joined Ash on his adventures in Kanto. The series will also feature Quaxly, Sprigatito and Fuecoco, from the Scarlet and Violet games.
In addition to Pikachu’s hat, Friede wears aviator sunglasses, suggesting the pair may have a special affinity for air.
The Pokémon Company announced in December that Ash would not return as the main character in the animated series, for the first time in 25 years, following gaining Pokémon Master status. Even so, fans are waiting for his presence in some special participation, in a season that must have references to classic moments of the series.
