Al-Marsad newspaper: The German “In Franken” website stated that some diets can prevent or alleviate the symptoms of strokes.
According to the German Stroke Association, eating whole grain products, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, cheese and other dairy products can reduce the risk of stroke.
The study found that diet-related risk factors differed between the two types of stroke. Four out of five strokes are ischemic attacks. It results from narrowing or closing of the blood vessels that supply the brain, and then there is a lack of supply to an area of the brain with nutrients and oxygen.
Another stroke, due to bleeding, accounts for regarding 20 percent of all strokes. Referred to as a hemorrhagic attack or cerebral hemorrhage, a rupture of a blood vessel leads to a decrease in the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the brain tissue behind it. In addition, blood leakage can put pressure on the areas around the brain, causing additional damage.
According to the study, participants who suffered from ischemic stroke consumed more red meat and processed meat. Meat can be replaced, for example, by a whole grain diet. The positive effects of a diet containing whole grain products, plenty of fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, as well as cheese and other dairy products have been demonstrated in all analyzes showing that it is possible to reduce the risk of stroke.
But eating these nutrients is not effective for preventing hemorrhagic stroke. “On the other hand, these dietary factors do not appear to have a protective effect on the risk of cerebral hemorrhage (stroke),” the German “In Franken” website quoted Professor Hans-Christoph Diener, spokesman for the German Neurological Society, as saying.
The available results also showed that egg consumption significantly increased the risk of hemorrhagic stroke.
