The Israeli army on Friday (30/8) continued its military attacks on the city of Jenin and the refugee camp in the northern part of the West Bank, Palestine, for the third day in a row. According to witnesses, the military attacks on Jenin have expanded with Israeli troops storming the refugee camp, the eastern area, and the city of Zababdeh.

The Zionist soldiers surrounded homes, conducted searches, and interrogated a large number of residents. Witnesses reported hearing explosions and sporadic gunfire in several areas of Jenin.

The Israeli army deployed additional military reinforcements, leading to armed clashes with Palestinians. Witnesses said military bulldozers also accompanied the Israeli forces and were involved in destroying infrastructure and vehicles in the town and camp.

In Zababdeh near Jenin, Ahmed Turkman, a local resident, told Anadolu Agency that Israeli forces entered the town, opened fire on a group of young men, and set fire to Palestinian vehicles. “We found blood stains on the ground after the soldiers withdrew,” Turkman added.

Meanwhile in Tulkarem, eyewitnesses told Anadolu that Israeli soldiers withdrew from the area on Thursday evening after a military offensive that lasted more than 48 hours.

They added that the Israeli army left the town. Their military operation left four people dead, several others injured, and caused serious damage to infrastructure.

On Wednesday, the Israeli army launched its largest military offensive since 2002 on the cities of Tulkarem and Jenin as well as the Al Fara refugee camp near Tubas, killing 16 Palestinians, according to Palestinian figures. The army withdrew from the Al Fara camp early Thursday after a 30-hour operation.

Tensions have been rising in the occupied West Bank amid Israel’s brutal assault on the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 40,600 Palestinians, mostly women and children, since October 7 last year.

According to Palestinian figures, at least 670 Palestinians have been killed, nearly 5,400 others injured and more than 10,300 arrested in the occupied territories.

On July 19, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s decades-long occupation of Palestinian land illegal and demanded the removal of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. (Ant/Z-2)
