With the snow falling.. What is the true image of Jabal Al-Lawz in Saudi Arabia?

In conjunction with the snowfall in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the past days, pages and accounts on social media circulated a picture of a snow-covered mountain, which was said to have been taken recently in Saudi Arabia.

But this photo was actually taken in New Zealand.

The picture shows a road leading to a snow-covered mountain, its publishers said it was taken in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while publications went to specify that the apparent mountain is Jabal Al-Lawz in Tabuk.

The circulation of this image came following regions in Saudi Arabia had already witnessed snowfalls, including Jabal Al-Lawz, northwest of the Kingdom, according to local media.

However, the circulated image was not taken in Saudi Arabia, as searching for it by search engines showed that it was published, in addition to other images from different angles, on a website belonging to a photographer who said it was of Mount Ruapehu, located in New Zealand.

The same photo can be found posted on her Instagram last March.

Mount Ruapehu is the largest and most active of the many volcanic centers located on the North Island of New Zealand.
