The Chinese manufacturer DJI is releasing its brand new action cam Osmo Action 4. It takes the main characteristics of its big sister released last year and consolidates them, while increasing the bill.
Inflation also affects the cameras, since this Osmo Action 4 takes some 70 € compared to the previous model. At this price, the manufacturer DJI offers a action cam resistant, efficient and powerful which aims to transform the test operated by the model 3. The latter came to erase many problems of the range.
Almost identical characteristics
It’s hard to tell an Osmo Action 3 from the new Action 4 model when the two are placed side by side. Their design is similar, on the one hand, with their two touch screens at the front and at the back, to favor shooting modes, such as vlogs. Their size too, 70.5 x 44.2 x 32.8 mm for 145 g. Their technical characteristics are also substantially the same.
The Osmo Action 4 adopts a 1/1.3-inch (ƒ/2.8) CMOS sensor capable of shooting 4K at 120 frames (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) per second with a 155° ultra-wide-angle field of view ( 12.7mm equivalent on a full-frame sensor). There are also other capture modes such as 2.7K at 120 fps (2688 x 1512 pixels) or 1080p at 240 fps (1920 x 1080).
The camera offers effective stabilization thanks to technologies well known to drone enthusiasts: Rocksteady and HorizonSteady. It also improves its waterproofness and can withstand up to 18 meters without using a dedicated case, compared to 16 meters for the version released in September 2022.
The Osmo Action 4 also finds interest in photography, where it is capable of producing JPG or RAW files at 3,648 x 2,736 pixels.

If the Osmo Action 3 came to correct the disappointing autonomy of the model 2, this new version continues its momentum and keeps the same proposal. DJI therefore offers its action cam a 1,770 mAh battery like last year. Thanks to it, the brand promises up to 160 minutes of shooting on a single charge. What’s more, it adopts fast charging compatibility which recovers 80% in 18 minutes and only takes 50 minutes to fully charge.
In terms of functionality, the camera offers a wide selection of modes and configurations. The SnapShot button is included, to start an immediate recording while the InvisiStick function recognizes the selfie stick and automatically hides it from the shot. As always, the camera is compatible with the dedicated LightCut application, which allows you to quickly edit small films or stories for social networks.

The price may be disappointing. DJI offers its Osmo Action 4 from €429 for the standard version which includes a battery, a protective frame or even a quick-release installation support. An Adventure bundle is sold for €529 and contains three batteries, an extension bar and a multi-function battery case.
