With the increasing use of the Internet in Pakistan, cybercrimes have also increased rapidly and a 12-fold increase in cybercrimes has been witnessed in the last four years.

An increase in the number of crimes has been noted every year following the enactment of cybercrime legislation in the country. These crimes include cases of sexual harassment, financial fraud, data theft, identity theft on social media, making and distributing indecent images and videos of children.

According to the documents, following the implementation of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PICA) in 2016, the FIA received 9,000 complaints from across the country, based on which 47 cases were registered.
However, the number of cases registered in 2019 increased by 12 times to 577, while the number of complaints received by the FIA this year has also increased by more than 56 thousand.

Similarly, the number of cases registered in 2018 was 465, which is double compared to the previous year, while the number of complaints received was more than 9,000. In the year 2017, the number of cases registered under PICA was 207. In 2019, 620 accused involved in cyber crimes were arrested while last year 443 people were arrested in cases registered under PICA.

It should be noted that in order to eradicate cyber crimes and create awareness among the public, the cyber crime wing of FIA is trying to create awareness regarding these crimes through its social media accounts. Apart from this, various guidelines are also issued which are available on the FIA website.
