With the Edge, Razer takes cloud gaming seriously

Cloud gaming inspires builders. Logitech presented at the end of September sa console portable G Cloud intended for lovers of streaming games, now Razer adds a layer with a product even more inspired by the Switch. L’Edge is a small Android tablet on which is added a Kishi V2 Pro controller.

Unlike Logitech, Razer didn’t do things by halves since this console is perfectly suited for use on wireless networks: not only does it support Wi-Fi 6E (Wi-Fi 5 only for the G Cloud), but there is also a 5G model.

The 6.8-inch AMOLED display (2400 x 1080) ensures a frequency of 144 Hz when used in conjunction with Steam Link. Under the hood is a Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 chip, presented by Qualcomm as its “gaming platform”, with 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 128 GB of storage with a microSD slot up to 2 TB, Bluetooth 5.2, a USB port -C, a jack port on the controller, and a battery with a capacity of 5,000 mAh.

Razer has also thought of integrating a front camera (perfect for Twitch) of 5 megapixels which films up to 1080p. The cradle type controller is a new version of the Kishi V2 — available for iPhone — which will not be sold solo for the moment.

If the focus is on cloud gaming, this console also runs on Android 12, which will allow you to download games and also… emulators. With so much power under the pedal, the Edge might well become a go-to device for fans of old consoles.

The Wi-Fi version will be available in January, initially in the United States for $400. That’s $50 more than the non-launch price of the G Cloud, which just got a little old before it even became available. The 5G version will be released later.
