With the 9-euro ticket from the Alps to the Baltic Sea – is that possible?

From June 1st, the “nine euro ticket” will be valid on German buses, trains and local trains. Theoretically, you can even make your way from Garmisch in the south to Rügen in the north of the republic. And practical? Our reporter tests it out.

Departure early in the morning, arrival in the dark: 15.5 hours are planned for the cheap train journey across Germany.

Now it’s here, the hotly debated Spar-Billet, which is intended to mitigate the losses caused by inflation and at the same time make it tempting for Germans to switch from cars to public transport this summer. The nine-euro ticket has been valid since this Wednesday for a month on the country’s buses, trains and local trains. It will be extended in July and August, following which it should be over.
