With soaring inflation, Belgians’ savings are burning and purchasing power is going up in smoke

Saving hardly pays off anymore, and it even makes you lose money – or, rather, purchasing power.

With the rise in energy prices, almost all consumer products have seen their prices increase and even today, inflation, the consumer price index, continues to rise.

From 9.94% in August, inflation reached 11.27% in September, a level which had not been reached since 1975, ie almost 50 years.

Clearly, life in September 2022 cost on average 11.27% more than in September 2021.

Paying more for energy, gasoline or bread is noticeable on a daily basis. However, the Belgian also loses money in a much more discreet way, because of his savings account.
