“With Saudi efforts,” the UN envoy to Yemen talks about an agreement between the government and the Houthis on “several matters”

A statement issued by the Office of the Special Envoy to Yemen said, “Last night, July 22, the Yemeni government and the Houthi movement informed the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, that they had agreed on several measures to de-escalate the situation regarding the banking sector and Yemenia Airlines, according to a written text received by the UN Envoy from both parties, which includes the following:

1. Cancel the recent decisions and procedures against banks from both sides and stop any similar decisions or procedures in the future.

2. Resuming Yemenia Airlines flights between Sana’a and Jordan, increasing the number of flights to three per day, and operating flights to Cairo and India daily or as needed.

3. Meetings are held to address the administrative, technical and financial challenges facing the company.

4. Start holding meetings to discuss all economic and humanitarian issues based on the roadmap.”

The two parties requested the support of the United Nations in implementing what was agreed upon.

Grundberg pointed to “the important role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in reaching this agreement.”

He expressed the United Nations’ “readiness to work with the two parties to implement the measures they agreed upon and offered his office to support communication with the authorities in Jordan, Egypt and India.”

He stressed the need for the two parties to cooperate in order to reach “an economy that serves all Yemenis and supports the implementation of a nationwide ceasefire and the resumption of an inclusive political process.”
