The men’s individual épée will be looking for medals this Sunday with three options.

Aloys Marín, a member of the press department of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV), indicated that Olympic champion Rubén Limardo (leader of the troop), Francisco Limardo and Grabiel Lugo, will begin actions at the Grand Palais in Paris from 10 a.m., French time (4:00 a.m. national time).

Grabiel Lugo will be the first to take the field in the tableau of 64 against Nicholas Zhang of Canada. It will be the second match on the blue court. If he beats Zhang, Lugo will go on to face Mate Koch of Hungary, number two in the world.

Medalist in action

At 12:50 pm French time, Rubén Limardo, gold medallist at London 2012, will face Tibor Andrasfi (world number 17) of Hungary in the tableau of 32, also on the blue court, so there could be a fratricidal duel in the tableau of 16 between Lugo and the eldest Limardo. Rubén beat Andrasfi on February 22, 12-10 at the World Cup in Germany, in the round of 32.

Francisco Limardo will take the stage at 1:15 pm on the yellow platform against Chinese Zijie Wang (world number 15), also in the round of 32. The winner of the match will face the winner between Korean Jaewon Kim and Japanese Koki Kano, recent champion of the Cali Grand Prix and number three in the world.

The Venezuelan trio, along with John Rodríguez from Colombia, are the only South American representatives in the event.
