The Norwegian airline Norse Atlantic Airways wants to expand its long-haul service at BER.
From December, the company plans to offer three flights a week to Fort Lauderdale in Florida, as Norse boss Bjørn Tore Larsen said in Schönefeld on Wednesday.
In the followingnoon, Larsen said goodbye to the first Norse transatlantic flight from BER to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York. A first flight to Los Angeles is planned for Friday.
This makes Norse the largest provider of long-haul flights at BER. In Schönefeld, the company primarily competes with United Airlines. The US airline has also been flying from BER to New York to Newark Airport since March.
Norse Atlantic was formed last year. It has only been in the air for a few weeks and has so far only flown from Oslo to the USA.
There are also direct long-haul connections at BER to Singapore, Doha and, in winter, to Dubai. On Friday, the Chinese airline Hainan Airlines also offered a connection between BER and Beijing for the first time. Until the beginning of the Corona crisis, Hainan flew via what was then Tegel Airport.
