EVE Online, an MMORPG released in 2003 and still standing today. In this spatial metaverse, incredible stories between players have been built. In JV Legends, we retrace the greatest betrayal of video games.
Back in 2003: beginnings of unlimited broadband and by extension, explosion of MMORPGs. Audiences are turning to games like Ultima Online, EverQuest, Dark Age of Camelot, and of course, the arrival of the juggernaut World of Warcraft. But in all of this, one game stands out: EVE Online. And surprisingly, 20 years later, it still exists. The title is quite far from “classic MMORPGs” and is closer to a “space metaverse”. You have to participate in basic activities to get rich and buy bigger ships, mine, hunt, convoy, pledge allegiance to various factions, all on a huge playing field.
In this game, it is therefore a question of invading entire sectors of the universe for which the players are fighting for years.forging alliances and betrayals, all in battles with thousands of players, all synchronized by guild strategists and command.

More than a game
The experience of this MMORPG is so dense that books telling the story of the world wars of EVE Online exist, with battles lasting for entire weeks. The title is so unique, that for some, it’s almost a second life that the game offers. In EVE Online, you enlist in a corporation, you have a function, a specific role, a fictional existence, and the field of possibilities to develop our role-playing game, our virtual character, is practically infinite.
We might talk regarding Charles White, called the Pope of Space. A man who, since losing loved ones in loneliness and despair, has vowed to always listen to those in need. And many players in the game come to confess to him for advice. Every year, during EVE Fanfest, he comes dressed as the Pope, drinking from a small coupette in the company of other players he has befriended.
In EVE Online, the relationship is an extremely strong component of the experience. On top of that, with the in-game economy, many players invest hundreds or even thousands of dollars in their accounts. So as soon as we talk regarding betrayal, it is therefore a question of large sums of money and of a human relationship built over several years. The relationship that interests us here dates back more than five years and concerns people from the same corporation, from the same group of players. The group is called CO2 (Circle of Two) and our protagonists are “GIGX”, boss of the group, and “The Judge”, one of its lieutenants.
