Led by Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, Spain’s Real Madrid beat Italy’s Atalanta 2-0 on Wednesday to win the European Super Cup.
The match, played at the Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw, Poland, pitted the Champions League champions (Madrid) against the Europa League champions. And just as predicted in the preview, the Merengues ended up winning.
Despite the fact that the score remained unchanged in the first half, the Whites stepped up the pace in the second half. In less than 10 minutes they scored the two goals for victory and subsequently lifted their sixth European Super Cup.
Federico Valverde opened the way with a goal in the 59th minute, after receiving a pass from Vinicius Jr. In the 68th minute, Mbappé, Casa Blanca’s new signing this summer, appeared and scored the 2-0 with an assist from Jude Bellingham.
In this way, the French star had a special debut with the Real Madrid shirt, a team he has always been a fan of. He opened his scoring account and lifted his first trophy, in what was the start of a 2024/2025 season that is expected to be full of joy.
