With legends at the Purkersdorfer Open Air

Falcon live. Anyone who has ever seen him on stage still says today that it was unforgettable. Anyone who has never experienced it will never be able to catch up. Although – maybe it is, albeit a little different: At the Purkersdorf Open Air on June 11, 2022, Falco will be projected singing onto a huge video screen, his original band will play on stage and star guests will sing as a duet with him.

Falco himself was often in Purkersdorf, as scene host and organizer Niki Neunteufel explains: “With this tribute concert we are celebrating the 65th birthday of the only international star we have ever had, Hansi Hölzl. Falco was a welcome and dear guest and we spent some memorable and fun evenings together here.”

It should be memorable once more this summer following a two-year break due to the pandemic. Mayor Stefan Steinbichler (SPÖ) can hardly wait: “I’m really looking forward to it, I can’t put it into words. The citizens are craving that they can finally party properly once more.”

Falcon to touch

Having Falco up close and personal – you get that feeling when you see him on the video wall and his original band is playing along on the stage in Purkersdorf. Roman Gregory, Edita Malovčić, Anna Milva Gomes, Tini Kainrath and Johannes Krisch will be there live. The news announcer for the song “Jeanny” is live on stage “Zeit im Bild 1” anchorman Tobias Pötzelsberger.

Incidentally, the video recordings that are shown are from the legendary concert in 1993 on the Danube Island – the fans stood in the pouring rain, and finally a lightning strike paralyzed the technology. Falco’s band always wanted to play this concert to the end, thanks to modern technology and the inventive talent of Kapellmeister Thomas Rabitsch, this wish was fulfilled in 2017. At that time, the concept of a semi-virtual concert on the Danube Island inspired 135,000 people. Now it comes to Purkersdorf.

Austropop legends at the place where they were founded

But that’s not the only highlight in Purkersdorf this summer. Under the band name Wir4plus1, the original band from Austria3 will play together with Wolfgang Ambros on August 27, 2022. Purkersdorf is a place steeped in history for the legends, says Niki Neunteufel: “The cult band Austria3 was founded here in the Nikodemus in 1997 and this is where they played their very first concert.”

“I think it’s not just always top artists and acts, but also high-quality, high-quality events. It is particularly important for us that the focus here is on the people,” says Christian Noisternig from ERGO Versicherung. Admission to both events is free thanks to numerous sponsors.

For those who cannot be there on site, Radio Niederösterreich broadcasts the concerts live following 8 p.m., according to ORF-Lower Austria Marketing Manager Michael Battisti: “The ORF can not only do justice to the information mission, including culture and sport, but also to the entertainment mission and we are looking forward to two great events,” says Battisti.
