“Hallelujah, hallelujah, the Lord is risen!” Today was the most important festival for Catholicism in the Comarca Lagunera because on Resurrection or Easter Sunday, Jesus Christ abandoned his tomb and triumphed over death. There were masses at different times and in the churches there were applause, songs, joy and happiness on the part of the Catholic faithful.
In the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Torreón, Bishop Luis Martín Barraza Beltrán presided over the Holy Eucharist at twelve noon. He said that on this day the whole world overflows with joy and sprinkled holy water among the attendees.
Before, it was requested by sick people who are at home or in hospitals. A greeting was also sent to the Nursing staff who make present the merciful love of the risen Christ “in each brother who is in hospitals receiving the attention of doctors, the attention of nurses, precisely caring for them, giving them love for life ”.
As every year, the light of the Paschal Candle might be appreciated, a sign of the risen Christ and which was lit during the Vigil. It will remain like this until Ascension Day, when Jesus ascends to heaven.
“Do not be afraid, on this Sunday we celebrate the resurrection,” the bishop commented at Sunday mass. He spoke regarding the good attitude and called the faithful to reinvent themselves, not only with human abilities but with the grace of God and the Holy Spirit. “God is in our midst, we will always count on action, with the strength of God, God will always walk by our side,” he said.
The day before, on the Saturday of glory, the bishop presided over the Pascual Vigil, in what is known as the holy night. Monsignor said that Jesus Christ passed from death to life and that the church invites all his children to gather to watch in prayer.
It is important to mention that with Resurrection Sunday, the Catholic churches of the Lagunera region began Easter. This lasts 50 days since it is the time of grace and the passage of Christ from death to life. Easter time concludes with the Pentecost mass.
