Delivering new features in iOS for users and developers is good. Allowing for faster and more economical iPhones is better. This year once more, Apple has improved its ecosystem on many levels. Launching apps, performance, energy consumption, bandwidth… Everyone got their share of optimizations.
We have already dealt with the subject of machine learning with transformers d’iOS 16 which take full advantage of the Neural Engine to perform the same operation up to 10 times faster while dividing consumption by 14. We have also treated Swift Concurrency et Swift 6, whose objective is to take advantage of the different cores of the chips while reducing as much as possible the waste of energy caused by poorly optimized code. Well Apple didn’t stop there and brought other optimizations under the hood.
Faster app launch
Spoiler alert : during WWDC 2022, Apple announced that apps written in Swift launched much faster on iOS 16 than on iOS 15. For example, Airbnb et Lyft start almost twice as fast!
