Egypt – Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly witnessed the signing ceremony of minutes of receipt of land for two projects to establish electricity stations operating with wind energy in the West Sohag region.
The handing over minutes were signed by Mohammed Al-Khayyat, CEO of the New and Renewable Energy Utilization and Development Authority, Terje Bielskog, CEO of Norwegian company SCATEC ASA for the first project, and Khaled El-Dajjawi, CEO of Orascom Construction for the second project, on behalf of the consortium. The investors and the alliance, which includes Kahrabel, a subsidiary of the French company ENGIE, and the Japanese company Euros Energy Holdings.
Following the signing, Madbouly stressed that the government aims to maximize the exploitation of new and renewable energy resources and encourage investment in this promising field, which contributes to reducing dependence on fossil fuels, reducing carbon emissions, and achieving sustainable development goals.
Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, explained that two projects are scheduled to be implemented to produce electricity from wind energy with a total capacity of 8 gigawatts in the West Sohag region, in cooperation with the private sector under the (BOO) system, where SCATEC will implement the first project, which aims to produce 5 gigawatts. While the second project will be implemented through an alliance led by Orascom Construction and aims to produce 3 gigawatts, in several stages, in cooperation with the New and Renewable Energy Development and Utilization Authority.
