As the end-of-year holidays approach, it’s time to think regarding Christmas gifts. But with inflation, having fun without breaking the bank can be a little complicated. However, with a few tips, it is possible to make significant savings.

The end of year holidays are approaching. But with inflation, giving gifts becomes a little more complicated. The French have also planned to spend less this year compared to last Christmas. You’ll have to be smart to put gifts under the tree without spending too much. How to please your loved ones without breaking the bank? The French people that Europe 1 met have their tips.

“I planned to paint little canvases for my brother and my mother for Christmas. It’s a free gift and it makes them happy,” explains a young woman. “I have two little girls, so we try to limit one gift each because then there are the other grandpa and grandma, there are the parents, there are the uncles. So it’s each a gift,” details a grandmother. “I’m not normally a big fan of Black Friday, but it’s true that the prices on offer at the moment are still very attractive, so I admit that I’m taking advantage of it a little to make my Christmas presents and pay less than three days in advance”, underlines a passerby.

Black Friday, period of good deals

The Black Friday is an American concept imported to France where brands offer unbeatable prices for one day. It is officially scheduled for next Friday and according to Rodolphe Bonnasse, consumption expert, it is the ideal time to save money. “You have a period now and more particularly with Black Friday, with fairly aggressive promotions and there you can get good deals,” explains the specialist. “And then we must not forget a period when we can buy our Christmas gifts, it is in January, because there, suddenly, you will find important commercial promotions and also people who will resell their gifts.”

17% of French people resell their Christmas gifts just following the holidays. This can therefore be a good plan for you, provided of course that you convince your loved ones to wait a little while to unpack their package.
