The Municipal Chillán women’s basketball team achieved a heart-stopping victory against Truenos de Talca by 58-55, in a duel that went into overtime after ending tied at 52 in the four regulation quarters.
The team representing the capital of Ñuble maintained its undefeated record in the Second Division of the National Women’s League, where they remain leaders of Group C with a 4-0 record. For the locals, the idea is to maintain their undefeated record in this second round of the group.
The team led by coach Abel Vargas suffered in the low post, in a duel that was even throughout, even when there was one minute left the team was down by 3 points, but a triple by Valentina Sepúlveda sent the game to 5 extra minutes, where they came out with everything to close out the match against Maule’s great rival.
“It was a difficult match, from start to finish, we knew we were facing a great rival, from the first minute we went in with the mentality of winning, unfortunately we went into overtime, but in those 5 extra minutes we could see all the grit the team has to close out the match. Our goal is to be able to win the rest of the matches, it has felt great to play with the team,” said host Valentina Sepúlveda.
“It was a very intense match, we prepared a lot, it was a tough opponent, one of the toughest we have in the group, it was a match that deserved extra time, but we managed to win. We felt good with our coach Abel Vargas, he knows our strengths and weaknesses perfectly. Our goal is to win and win, we want to remain undefeated in this second round of the group and then face the other rivals,” he added.
“The game is about the girls’ mentality, they played hard on defense, even though we have problems in the low post, in this case Fernanda Orellana, was able to hold on with the girls, they put pressure on us, but the duel was exciting, we have to continue like this.
