With Brian Eno the world ends without hysteria

Ambient music genius Brian Eno addresses the ecological apocalypse in “Foreverandevernomore”.

Gardeners know that wood ash is good fertilizer. We now know at the latest that it can also serve as the seed for a thoughtful pop album. Brian Eno gave an open-air concert near the Acropolis in August 2021. Ash flankers from the forest fires raging ten kilometers away flew onto his keyboard and face. Climate change came dangerously close to his music, which is only superficially uneventful. On “Foreverandevernomore” (Opal), Eno poured the thoughts that triggered this close-up experience into ten shapely songs that, as usual, glow beneath their cool surface.
