“They know us as a warrior family,” announced Flor Marina Gómez, mother of cyclist Egan Bernal, who was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. With a video full of optimism and courage shared on her Instagram account, Gómez described the made like “one more battle” that adds to those that have lived and recalled the recent accident of his son.
“I don’t feel sick, I feel that life teaches me new things every day and here I am, wanting to face them with the best energy and with all the strength to emerge victorious,” said Gómez, who clarified that she wants to share her process with all the people who follow her and especially with women.
“I want to send a message to women to please take care of ourselves, do a self-examination. Detecting cancer early is essential. It is living,” she mused.
Likewise, Gómez pointed out that he feels confident and optimistic regarding the battle that surely, as he said, will come out very well. Words to which his son Egan replied “Masota”, accompanied by the emoji of hands in a prayer position; while her other son, Ronald Stiven, commented on the video with the phrase “we’re going to get out of this, mother.”
This fact It occurs months following the spectacular accident that Egan Bernal had in January of this year while training on a time trial bike. Bernal was in Cundinamarca when he crashed into a public service bus, for which he had to undergo surgery and remain in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Just a few weeks ago, Egan’s mother shared a message recalling the event: “On the day of the accident, for a moment I felt losing my son, It was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life.but the saying goes that (you don’t know how strong you are until life forces you to be), but God never forsaken us and here we are”.
In the publication, Gómez also highlighted that the 25-year-old cyclist is “the strongest I can meet. Always with FAITH intact, strong, clinging to life and with the desire to fulfill and fight for so many dreams” and celebrated the progress that Bernal has made in his recovery.
