In yet another move to contribute to the national aerospace ecosystem, Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) Brazil, the company’s unit dedicated to technological development, obtained its first two patents developed by Brazilian researchers, granted by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) .
“The patents granted are focused on the efficiency of flight operations, specifically on optimizing vertical flight climb through the Flight Management System, leading to a reduction in fuel consumption and, consequently, a reduction in CO2 emissions during flights. air operations”, says José Fregnani, Technical Manager at BR&T Brasil.
Regarding the focus of the patents obtained:
The first refers to the implementation of a continuous climb cruise algorithm in the Flight Management System (FMS), allowing the tracking of the ideal climb altitude.
This innovation has the potential to provide fuel savings of between 1% and 3%.
The second patent is related to the movement of the center of gravity due to the calculation of fuel consumption in the aircraft’s drag, allowing a more precise adjustment by flight management and planning systems.
“The achievement of these patents is a milestone that represents significant advances in the research and development work carried out by Boeing in Brazil”, added Eduardo Carrillo de Albornoz-Braojos, Director of BR&T Brasil.
Contribution to aerospace development in Brazil
In 2023, Boeing expanded its strategic investments in Brazil, reinforcing its commitment to the Brazilian aerospace industry and the country.
In October, Boeing opened its Engineering and Technology Center in São José dos Campos, an operation that is part of a global network made up of 15 cutting-edge technology development hubs.
Boeing and the government of the state of São Paulo formalized a Memorandum of Understanding on Technological Cooperation, consolidating their commitment to joint advancement in technological innovations.
Boeing announced the company’s first internship program in Brazil aimed at final-year engineering students, an initiative aligned with the company’s global strategy of contributing to engineering excellence in the countries where it operates.
The company also extended its strategic partnership with Unicamp, announcing the continuity of the SAFMaps project, which maps essential inputs for the production of sustainable aviation fuel in Brazil.
“Our investments in Brazil are broad and reflect the fact that Boeing considers the country a strategic partner in solving some of the biggest challenges facing the world’s aerospace industry,” says Landon Loomis, President for Latin America and the Caribbean and Vice President of Policy Boeing Global. “By expanding our collaboration with Brazil, the country will also be able to play an even more important role in meeting the global demand for aircraft over the next 20 years, which we estimate will be US$8 trillion.”
