Veselý once more played a key role in the Catalan team just two days following his season-best performance of 27 points helped Barcelona to victory over Europa League leaders Real Madrid. This time, less than 22 minutes on the field were enough for him to score 23 points. He made eight of 11 field goals and seven of eight free throws.
Barcelona trailed by 11 points at the start of the final quarter, but eventually claimed their 13th win in 19 games. They are third in the Euroleague behind Real and Bologna.
“We didn’t play what we wanted to in the second half. Fortunately, we turned it around in the fourth quarter, we started to focus once more and thanks to that we won,” Veselý, who ranked 4th in the all-time rebounding charts, told Euroleague TV. “It was a team effort, it’s not regarding one player. I’m glad we won,” he added.
The competition leader Real averted the threat of a second defeat in a row, but needed four overtimes to do so. The defending champions finally beat the 2021 and 2022 Europa League winners Anadolu Efes Istanbul 130:126 following a great fight.
