With the confirmation of the formulas of fifteen alliances and political parties by the Electoral Justice, during this day the Simultaneous and Mandatory Open Primaries are held, from which the candidates will emerge to compete for the position of President and vice-president for the next four years.

The number of contestants in the primaries is unprecedented in the electoral history of the country (15 alliances and 22 candidates) and it occurs within the framework of an even bigger celebration in Argentina: forty years of uninterrupted democracy.

Within these fifteen alliances there are internal ones in six of them, that is, more than one formula from which the one that participates in said coalition in the general elections to be held next October will come out.

Said inmates will be defined as follows: by the ruling party in the Unión por La Patria coalition with two lists, “Celeste and Blanca” with the current Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa and the Chief of Staff, Agustin Rossi as pre-candidates for president and vice respectively and the “Justa y Soberana” list, made up of the leader Juan Grabois and the sociologist Paula Abal Medina.

On the side of the opposition in Together for Change are, on the one hand, the list “The change of our lives” with the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta and the governor of Jujuy, Gerardo Morales, and on the other, “La Fuerza del Cambio” with the former Minister of National Security, Patricia Bullrich and the former candidate for the governorship of Mendoza, Luis Petri.

From the Left Front, the contest will be one of the formulas that make up deputy Miryam Bregman together with Nicolás del Caño, once morest Gabriel Solano and Vilma Ripoll. The FIT seeks to become a powerful option for the “angry vote”, but at the ideological antipodes of Milei. Other groups of the same trend (which will have the challenge of overcoming the ground) and which participate in the PASO are Política Obrera, with Marcelo Ramal and Patricia Urones, as well as Nuevo MAS with Manuela Castañeira and Lucas Ruiz, which presents its own list for not having entered the FIT.

The Liber.AR front has Nazareno Etchepare with Fernando Lorenzo from List D “Demos” and Ramiro Vasena accompanied by Víctor Lagonegro from the “Reconquista” list. The Peronist Julio Bárbaro lowered his list days ago.

Another political group with an internal to be defined of three formulas is Proyecto Joven with: “Coalición Paz, Democracia y Soberanía” with the writer Mempo Giardinelli and Bárbara Solernou; “United Homeland” made up of Martín Ayerbe and Hugo Rodríguez and finally the first trans woman to participate in a presidential election, Reina Ibáñez together with Gonzalo Ibarra.

Initially “Principles and Values” was the coalition that had the most lists in its midst with five, but the federal judge with electoral jurisdiction Maria Romilda Servini dismissed four of them for not having presented the 20,000 witness ballots required by law. This is how the duo of the former Secretary of Commerce, Guillermo Moreno and Leonardo Fabre will be the one to represent that space alone. Moreno proposes himself as the “only option” Peronist and will seek to break the ground to reach October.

The libertarian Javier Milei and his pre-candidate for vice Victoria Villarruel constitute the only formula for “La Libertad Avanza”. A big question is how much the libertarian economist will finally get in PASO, who might capture votes, both from the ruling party and from JxC, becoming the third force.

The leader of the province of Neuquén, Jesús Escobar, together with Marianella Lezama Hid are the formula of “Libres del Sur”.

The governor of Córdoba Juan Schiaretti with Florencio Randazzo in a non-Kirchnerist Peronist front called “We do for our country.” They seek to be the “anti-crack” offer to settle the “productive interior”.

The Movimiento Izquierda Juventud Dignidad has as its internal opponents the “Dignity” list of former expiquetero Raúl Castells with Adriana Reinoso and the “Confederal” list with Santiago Cúneo and Gustavo Barranco as aspiring candidates for President and vice president.

The list of pairs seeking a place in the elections on October 22 is completed with those of Raúl Albarracín and Sergio Pastore for “Movimiento de Acción Vecinal”; Andrés Passamonti, with Pamela Fernández Magaride from “UCeDé” and the members of the single list “First the Homeland” of the Federal Patriot Front, César Biondini and Mariel Avendaño.

In this electoral context, according to the law by which the PASO were imposed, it should be noted that the formula that achieves 1.5% of the votes of the electoral roll, will give you the pass to participate in the general elections. In fact, that floor is the main objective of a good part of the pre-candidates that appear today.
