Wisła Płock SA: The Engine of Polish Football

Four goals for the Oilers and the Fortress held!

In the match of the 12th round of the Betclic 1st League, Wisła Płock defeated Polonia Warszawa 4:1 (1:1). Łukasz Zjawiński opened the scoring for the guests, while Fabian Hiszpański, Jorge Jimenez and Łukasz Sekulski scored twice for the Nafciarze.

After a few calmer actions on both sides, in the 7th minute Polonia took over the ball in their own half and launched a counterattack, Ernest Terpiłowski crossed the fourth meter to the perfectly running Łukasz Zjawiński, who opened the scoring with a slide. A few minutes later, Erjon Hoxhallari was looking for luck from outside our penalty area, but he shot over the crossbar. In response, Andrias Edmundsson got the ball after a corner kick, but his volley shot went into the stands. The Oilers tried to get into the opponent’s goal with precise actions, but they often lacked accuracy in key moments. Polonia, in turn, threatened the locals several times with counterattacks, but fortunately, nothing came of it. Finally, in the 28th minute, after an action on the left side of the pitch, after a quick passing of the ball between Łukasz Sekulski-Jime-Fabian Hiszpański, the latter took the ball inside and hit the net after a precise shot with his left foot. Black Shirts they wanted to respond with a flat shot by Xabi Auzmendi, but the ball just barely went past the post. In the following minutes, both teams tried flanking actions, after which the ball landed in the hands of the goalkeepers, Michał Grudniewski missed the target just before the break.

After the change of ends, Iban Salvador was close to reaching the ball thrown over the defenders, but Jakub Lemanowicz beat him to it, and it turned out that the striker was offside. In the 53rd minute, after Jime’s throw-in towards Sekulski, our captain collided with the intervening goalkeeper. At first, the referee ordered play to continue, and Jime ended the action with a missed shot, but after VAR analysis, the referee noticed a foul and pointed to the eleventh meter. The injured party himself approached the penalty kick and successfully took it, giving the Oilers the lead! Shortly later, after the action, Salvador hit the right side and missed the target, although it seems that a good solution would be to pass the ball to the running Sekulski. And Miłosz Brzozowski found our captain with a flat cross in the 65th minute and we already had 3-1! Polonia could have responded when Xabi Auzmendi shot from a few meters after a clever move, but Maciej Gostomski rose to the challenge in great style. Later, our goalkeeper had no problem catching the ball after a light header by Zjawiński, and in the 84th minute the guests’ hopes for a favorable result were finally dashed. Brzozowski played again from the left, and this time Jime played the role of the executor! During added time, Piotr Krawczyk, who seemed to stop the action unnecessarily and was stopped by the defenders, and Krystian Pomorski, who failed to properly hit the ball while sliding, had their chances.

The international break is ahead of us. After that, the Nafciarze will return to the game on Saturday, October 19, when they will face Znicz Pruszków away. This match starts at 7:35 p.m.
