Wisła Kraków. Unemployed debutant: In Wieczysta I built up my personality [ROZMOWA] – News

– I found out on Friday, but I expected my debut more and more because I saw that my position in the locker room was growing and I was getting closer to the first team – says Patryk Letkiewicz, who made his debut in the Wisła Kraków first team against Odra Opole.

Michał Knura, LoveKraków.pl: Kamil Broda told me that it was a good match for the debut because there was not much work. Do you feel that way too?

Patryk Letkiewicz, Wisła goalkeeper: The most important thing is that we won the match, we broke through. 5-0 is not a random result, which we also achieved thanks to the fans. As for the debut – I don’t know if I wouldn’t prefer to have a little more work to show my skills. I fought hard for a place in the starting eleven, I sacrificed a lot for it, and not having the opportunity to prove it is a small minus in a huge plus. The most important thing is that we didn’t concede a goal. Thanks to efficient defense and good communication, I didn’t have that much work, but I will definitely be able to prove myself in the next matches.

You celebrated your 19th birthday on September 24. Was promotion to the first team such a late gift?

You could say so, especially after a great victory and a clean sheet. However, I will emphasize once again that it would not have been possible without the efficient play of the defense.

The last days at the club were very dynamic and tense. Coach Mariusz Jop didn’t hide the fact that during Monday’s training he saw that you couldn’t focus on work, your thoughts were just running away. When did you find out that he would play and that the club would fulfill the youth player regulation?

On match day. We were competing all the time and the coach can’t say too early that I will play because I have to fight for it. I found out on Friday, but I was expecting my debut more and more because I saw that my position in the locker room was growing and I was getting closer to the first team. I don’t know if I will get a chance in the next match, but I have to prepare for it in the same way.

Anton Chichkan strongly supported in the last hours before the meeting?

Not only today, support is there all the time. The atmosphere among the goalkeepers is at a very high level and that encourages me, I don’t feel pressure. I tried to support Anton when he was performing, and now he gives back. I’m glad that there is healthy competition between us.

Was your debut at a higher level a childhood dream? Previously, you played in the third league at best.

Debuting at my age, in such a club, is an honor, but above all, I treat it as a step towards achieving further goals. The most important thing is for Wisła to return to the top league. We’re all fighting for it.

What did you gain from playing in Wieczyńska, with which you were promoted from the 3rd to the 2nd league? There were very strong names in the locker room.

I strengthened my personality. I played almost everything, I was an important person. I wasn’t stressed about the fact that there were such people there, I was just happy about the opportunity. It definitely helped me in the match against Odra Opole.
