Wishek Named North Dakota League of Cities Conference City of the Year – Jamestown Sun

Wishek is home to approximately 839 residents and was chosen for its collaborative spirit, thriving local amenities and commitment to improving the quality of life of its citizens.

In recent years, Wishek has completed numerous projects that have transformed the city, including significant infrastructure improvements such as new fire hydrants and water and sewer system improvements. The city also secured funding for decorative lighting and sidewalk replacements.

Recreational opportunities have expanded with the addition of new campsites, a pickleball court and a modern swimming pool with splash pad. With grant funding, Wishek installed a fish cleaning station, new docks and improved playground equipment, making it a more attractive destination for residents and visitors.

“Wishek’s accomplishments reflect a community truly committed to progress,” said NDLC Executive Director Matt Gardner. “Wishek is a true example of a thriving community for other communities across the state. »

The town recently celebrated its 125th anniversary, attracting more than 40,000 visitors and showcasing the community spirit that defines Wishek. Recognition as a Tree Town and Rural Community Enhancement Program beneficiary further highlights the town’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

The impact of these achievements is reflected in residents’ increased pride and engagement in the community, the NDLC said. Wishek’s continued efforts have sparked a sense of hope and optimism, ensuring that his legacy of growth and collaboration will endure for generations.

Councilmember Whittney Lipp and City Auditor Mary Vickers accepted the award on behalf of the city, expressing gratitude for the recognition and commitment to continued community development.
