On May 17, Donald Gorske celebrated his golden wedding anniversary with what he describes as “the best sandwich in the world”.

He says his honeymoon with the famous fast food chain sandwich started when he bought his first car on May 17, 1972.

“I drove straight to McDonald’s, had my first three Big Macs, then got in my car and ate them,” he explains. At that point, I was like, ‘I’m probably going to eat this for the rest of my life.’”

Two Big Macs a day

The American eats two hamburgers – no fries – almost every day. This is also how he managed, in 1999, to obtain the Guinness record for the biggest Big Mac eater.

“I love burgers like no other food,” the 68-year-old told Guinness World Records organizers in 2021, when he had just broken his own record and crossed the 30,000 burger threshold.

To properly document his feat, the “King of the Big Mac” has kept all the containers and packaging of the sandwiches tasted since 1972, in addition to classifying them by year, including the receipts.

When will it hit the 40,000 Big Mac mark? In 14 years, according to his predictions. He will then be 78 years old.
