During a period of three years,
Cabonlinethe largest taxi company in the Nordic region, will use a small fleet of vehicles Fully electric Volvo XC40 Recharge that will be recharged wirelessly at points in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The wireless charging test is one of many projects that constitute la iniciativa estratégica Gothenburg Green City Zone in which certain areas of the city are used as a real testing ground for the development of sustainable technologies.

The charging points used in the test are supplied by Momentum Dynamics, a leading company in wireless electric charging systems. Charging begins automatically when a compatible vehicle is parked on a charging platform integrated into the road, so the vehicle is recharged without the driver having to get out.
The energy is sent through the recharging platform, which is captured by a receiver unit in the vehicle. To easily align the vehicle with the charging platform, Volvo Cars uses a 360-degree camera system. for models
All-electric XC40 Rechargethe wireless recharge power will be over 40kWgiving recharging speeds four times faster than an 11kW AC corded charger and almost as fast as a 50kW DC corded fast charger.
Total, Volvo vehicles will be used for more than 12 hours a day and will travel 100,000 km per year, so this will also be the first durability test of fully electric Volvos in a commercial use scenario.
Other partners involved in the electric charging project include the company’s own Swedish dealers, Volvo Bil and Volvo Car Sörred, the Swedish electricity company Vattenfall and its charging network InCharge, the city’s electricity company, Göteborg Energi, and Business Region Gothenburg, the municipal agency for economic development owned by the City of Gothenburg.
Last year, Volvo Cars participated in the launch of the Gothenburg Green City Zone initiative, whose objective is to ensure that transport is free of emissions by 2030. Using a real city as a testing ground will allow the company to accelerate the development of technologies and services related to electrification, shared mobility, autonomous driving, connectivity and security.
