Newfoundland’s Trinity Hall Board Embarks on “Wicked” Hollywood Adventure
The board members of Trinity Hall in Winterton have just returned from a whirlwind trip to California, all thanks to their unique connection to one of the year’s biggest blockbuster films: Wicked.
“It was the trip of a lifetime,” says board member Courtney Wicks, describing the opportunity to see “Wicked” before its official release. The invitation came from Greg Wells, the mastermind behind Trinity Hall and the burgeoning Scilly Cove Records – and also the music producer behind the film’s soundtrack.
Wells went above and beyond, providing the board members not just with a private screening of the movie at the iconic Fox studio lot, but also with a tour of his Santa Monica recording studio and even welcoming them into his home.
A Powerful Emotional Experience
Wicks describes the experience of watching “Wicked” as incredibly emotional. “If you’ve ever felt like you were an outcast of any sort, it just, it will make you want to rise above,” she says. “Truly, I cried the whole entire movie, especially the last 15 minutes… I just couldn’t control it.”
The film, she says, carries a powerful message, especially for women and girls.
From Unexpected Beginnings to Philanthropic Pursuits
For the board members of Trinity Hall, the trip offered a deeper understanding of Wells’ remarkable journey.
“He appeared from thin air in Winterton,” says Wicks. “Nobody really knew who he was.” Now, she says she’s learning more about his impressive career and everyone he’s worked with, discovering “how remarkable he truly is.”
Wicks emphasizes Wells’ commitment to giving back to the community through his dedication to Trinity Hall and the establishment of Scilly Cove Records, a platform aimed at fostering Newfoundland’s musical talent.
“He’s just trying to provide opportunities for Newfoundland musicians,” says Wicks, her voice laced with admiration. “It leaves me speechless.”
