‘Winning the World Cup was my biggest dream’

Doha: Portugal’s superstar Cristiano Ronaldo reacted for the first time following losing to Morocco in the World Cup quarter-finals. In a post shared on social media, Cristiano stated that winning the World Cup for Portugal was the biggest dream of his career and he fought hard for that dream.

“Winning a World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most cherished dream of my career. Fortunately, I was able to win many titles at international level, including for Portugal. But it was my biggest dream to take our country’s name to the highest level in the world. I fought for it. I fought hard for this dream. I scored in five World Cups over 16 years. Always with the best players, with the support of millions of Portuguese people, I gave my all. I have never turned away from a fight. I never gave up on that dream.

Unfortunately, the dream ended yesterday. A lot of things have been said, a lot of things have been written, a lot of things have been speculated, but I want everyone to know that my sincerity towards Portugal has not changed for a second. I was also someone who fought for everyone’s cause and I would never turn my back on my teammates and my country.

Now, nothing more to say. Thank you, Portugal. Thank you, Qatar. It was beautiful while the dream lasted… Now, it’s time to be a good mentor and let everyone come to their own conclusions’ – added Cristiano.
