“Wine Tourism 2024 – Vineyards Bridges”: A unique institution in Europe for wine and viticulture, the program of events

The program of this year’s event “Wine Excursions 2024 – Bridge Vineyards”, which is now in its second decade and with a new form of management structure, was presented on Thursday morning to the local media by the Mayor of Aegialia and president of the event, Mr. Dimitris Kalogeropoulosthe deputy mayor of Culture-Sports Mr. Panagiotis Andriopoulosthe member of the Wine Network Mr. Angelos Rouvalis and the responsible municipal employee Ms Chrysoula Christia. From the 21st to the 31st of August, locals and visitors will enjoy eleven days full of rich aromas and emotions, with the vehicle of the fine wines of Aegialia, attending a program of events that this year extends to Patras and Kalavryta, marking a new era that is captured and in the title “Bridges Vineyards” of this year’s event. At the same time, the presence of the president of the Cultural Route of the Council of Europe “Iter Vitis” Ms Emanuella Punk will lend international glamor and visibility to the festival this year.

Starting with the Mayor of Aegialia Mr. Dimitris Kalogeropoulosemphasized among other things that the region of Aegialia has great and unique features: the interesting geographical relief, the fine production and the impeccable hospitality. “Through wine, this ancient product of our region, we promote our unique cultural presence to our fellow citizens, our visitors and future stakeholders. Every year, using the experiences we gain, we build a meeting place for this special product, wine, through the Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, thus claiming our presence with an international cultural identity” noted the mayor.

In turn, Mr. Angel Rouvalis he emphasized that now, with the creation of the new internal structure of the Wine Network, the mayor takes over as president of the festival, thus signaling the recognition of the comparative advantage of the wine-growing zone of Aegialia. “We are entering our second decade and the program is not a sum of events but a path to consolidating and developing a culture of hospitality with a smile and quality towards the guest. This year the “opening” initiatives are noteworthy, both with the pre-start at the Castle of Rio Patras and the closing ceremony in Kalavryta, as well as with the collaboration with the new and promising institution “Messinia Terroirs Wine Festival” held this year for the second time in Costa Navarino» said Mr. Rouvalis, emphasizing that this year’s central theme “Vineyards Bridges” aspires to connect the city with the countryside and to bridge history with the future, having wine not as a goal but as an axis of development.

The Deputy Mayor for Culture and Sports, Mr. Panagiotis Andriopoulosemphasizing the importance of a good mood throughout the setup of the event. Finally, Ms Chrysoula Christia referred to the pan-European dimension that the institution of “Wine Inns” takes with its inclusion in the Cultural Route of the Council of Europe “Iter Vitis”, emphasizing that the Municipality of Aegialia is the only one in Europe that organizes a multi-day festival for wine and viticulture, holding a special place on the map of Europe’s greatest cultural events.
