CHIȘINĂU, Moldova, March 22, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The Moldovan wine industry has reached a critical point following its enthusiastic reception at ProWein. After the successful presentation of two wines, with the help of artificial intelligence were produced, the key players plan to further collaborate with the country’s emerging technology and design sectors in the coming years and want to use innovations to strengthen their global competitiveness.
According to data from Wine of Moldova This groundbreaking AI project is a strategic partnership between several institutions: the National Office of Vine and Wine, the Technology Center for Creative Media, Mediacor, and the Moldova University of Technology. Their goal was to set a global precedent for bringing together artificial intelligence and human expertise and to facilitate further development through the use of new technologies. 500 million US dollars are earmarked for the expansion of wine-growing areas, technological innovations and production capacities.

At this year’s ProWein, a (white) blend of Feteasca Alba, Feteasca Regala and Viorica as well as a (red) Feteasca Neagra, which were created with the help of artificial intelligence, were presented to an international trade audience.
“During the fair, 51 producers spoke to visitors from all over the world and introduced them to local grape varieties, unique terroirs and wine blending expertise,” reports Stefan Iamandi, director of the National Office of Vine and Wine.
Today, the wine industry is an important sector of the Moldovan economy, generating around 3% of GDP and 8% of total exports, supporting the livelihoods of over 50,000 families in rural areas. Premium wines are exported to 72 different countries – 55% of the country’s total exports go to the EU.
“In Moldova, the number of small new wineries from young winemakers is growing, while the larger wineries are investing in vineyards and cellar equipment to produce more premium wines,” explains Diana Lazar, project manager of AI Wine.
Like any other wine-producing country, Moldova faces a number of challenges. However, actors are well positioned to overcome these difficulties and fully exploit the advantages of future technologies. A new era of collaboration between winemakers and digital innovators has begun, and Moldova is providing valuable insights for the global wine sector.
