Castle Windsor is a residence and fort that is more than 900 years old. This castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world with an area of 5 hectares.
Windsor Castle is one of the properties that housed the British royal family. Reported from Britannica, Saturday (17/9/2022) Windsor Castle consists of two complexes of buildings or courtyards separated by a circular tower. Within these two building complexes are several chapels and royal apartments.

The land in this castle was first developed by King William I in regarding 1070. He built the fort using rows of wood that were lined up to form a fort fence.

Later this wooden fort was replaced by King Henry II. He replaced the wooden fort with the Round Tower made of stone. He also added an outer wall to protect the inside.
The building at Windsor Castle is constantly undergoing development as the rulers change. Henry III contributed to adding the royal chapel. Then Edward III turned the castle building into a royal apartment.
During the reign of King Charles II, the apartment building was rebuilt. Until finally during George IV’s time the apartment was renovated once more so that it might be used by the royal family and guests.
The two building complexes currently in use are separated by the Round Tower. The area to the west of the tower is called the lower ward. While the area to the east is called the upper ward.

In the lower ward area are the Albert Memorial Chapel and the Chapel of St. George’s. This area is also the burial place of 10 British rulers. Namely Henry VI, Edward IV, Henry VIII and Jane Seymour, Charles I, Edward VII, and George V who are buried in the Chapel of St. George’s. The other three rulers, George III, George IV, and William IV, are buried in the Albert Memorial Chapel.
For the upper ward area, there are private apartments for the king or queen, apartments for guests, and a royal library. Guest rooms in this area include the Waterloo Room, St. George’s Hall, and the magnificent reception room.

This upper ward area experienced a fire in November 1992. The fire hit the northeastern part of this area. Valuable collectibles and movable furniture were fortunately salvaged. However, the fire still damaged more than 100 rooms, including St. George’s Hall.
To repair these damages, a restoration project was carried out. Restoration Castle Windsor the affected area was completed in 1997.
In addition to being a private residence for War Elizabeth II, Windsor Castle is also one of the locations where the queen carries out royal duties and events. One of Queen Elizabeth’s annual events at Windsor Castle is Easter Court.
During March-April, during the Easter period, Queen Elizabeth usually stays at Windsor Castle for a whole month. This period is known as Easter Court. During this period of residence, the queen usually invites guests to eat and stay at the castle.
In addition, the Chapel of St. George at Windsor Castle is also still actively used for services. The chapel opens daily services to the public. Not only for regular worship, the Chapel of St. George is also often the location of royal weddings. Two of them are the marriage between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank in 2018.

Different from Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle is open to the public all year round. The castle can be visited on Thursday-Monday. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays Windsor Castle is closed to the public.
To visit this castle, visitors must book tickets in advance. Ticket prices vary depending on the day and age of visitors. Ticket prices for visits to Castle Windsor priced from 14.5 pounds sterling for children, 18.50 pounds for visitors aged 18-24, and 26.50 pounds for adults.
The castle can also be visited virtually. Visitors can access it through the official UK royal website on royal.uk. In this virtual tour, visitors can see 360-degree views from three rooms, namely the Waterloo Room, Crimson Drawing Room, and the State Banquet Room.
