Grant Remmen joined the team to test the idea that quantum corrections to Einstein’s gravity might themselves induce singularities on extreme black hole horizons. By incorporating quantum corrections, the researchers discovered that the horizons of these black holes become singular, with infinite tidal forces.

This result is in stark contrast to standard black holes, where tidal forces only become infinite at the center of the black hole.
