Microsoft plans to add support for third-party widgets.
At the moment, all widgets in Windows 11 are created by Microsoft. Thus, only one range is available, with limited functionality and customization. But, according to Windows developer FireCube, that might change.
The new widget table will move to the left side of the screen. So, like the News and Interests widget in Windows 10, users will be able to view weather updates right on the taskbar.
Door open to third-party developers
Any developer will be able to offer widgets for Windows 11. To do this, Microsoft will open its API to third-party applications, allowing them to create widgets that will integrate directly into the dedicated Windows 11 panel. Different technologies may be used to develop them. Moreover, widgets should be supported from the services official webpage, which makes them a kind of new version of Windows 10 Live Tiles.
Third-party widgets integrated into the Widget Board
This new support for third-party widgets will allow the user to customize the widget table as desired. Indeed, the new Widget Board will display all the (new) widgets available, with a redesigned aesthetic for the occasion. Namely that previously, it only allowed to manage widgets like Microsoft Calendar, Movies & TV and Microsoft To-Do.
“Finally, third-party widgets will be integrated into Windows 11 version 22H2 according to documents that we have been able to consult. This support will allow you to customize the widget panel according to your preferences” indicated Windows Latest.
An update by summer 2022
These changes will be included in the 22H2 version of Windows 11 as part of a new update. Under the code name Sun Valley 2, it will be the anniversary update of Windows 11. Thus, the company plans to launch it by summer 2022. 22H2 should also redesign the Start menu and introduce support for new customization options.
